What affects the cost of a website
Two websites can look similar but cost very different amounts. The main drivers are:
- Number of pages and how much content needs writing.
- Custom design versus adapting a template.
- E-commerce: products, checkout, delivery options and payments.
- Integrations such as M-Pesa, booking systems, CRMs or APIs.
- Custom functionality like portals, dashboards or user accounts.
- SEO depth, speed optimisation and ongoing support.
Ongoing costs to budget for
Beyond the build, plan for a yearly domain renewal (.co.ke or .com), web hosting, and optional maintenance for updates, security and backups. Ask for these costs upfront so there are no surprises.
Is a cheap website worth it?
Very cheap websites often skip the things that bring customers: speed, mobile design, SEO and security. Paying slightly more for a site that ranks on Google and converts visitors usually costs less over time than rebuilding a site that does not work.
